The strong expansion of the Crown of Aragon over the Mediterranean, turned Barcelona into a maritime power.

Nowadays, the city´s four kilometers of beaches has made Barcelona an unique place for enjoying the sea and water sports.

It´s one of the most active, important ports of the Mediterranean and acts as gateway to Europe for goods coming from Asia, Africa and other ports of the world.

Hosting the 1992 Olympic Games was a boom to the port, the waterfront was renovated and new promenades and marinas were added. It has became a very popular touristic destination and the number of cruise vessels calls and passengers has increased year after year.

The Montjuïc hill overlooks the harbour and most of the city, it´s the largest public park in Barcelona.  The site was selected to host the 1929 World´s Fair when buildings such as the National Palace, the Spanish Village ,the Magic Fountain  or the Mies Van der Rohe German pavilion were constructed. Years later, in 1992  was the site for several venues of the Summer Olympic games .
