Passeig the Gràcia, Barcelona´s most elegant avenue, was the place where moneyed bourgeois families chose to live and they commissioned to the art nouveau or modernist architects the design of their homes.

Nowadays, Passeig de Gràcia continues to be one of the most, if not the most, important avenues in Barcelona. The modernist buildings have been restored and the ground floors boast restaurants, coffee shops, jewelers and the most exclusive designer stores.

Mr. Batlló, a textile industrialist and a prominent man, commissioned to Gaudí the reform of the house he owned in Passeig de Gràcia.

Gaudí completely change the façade, redistributing the internal partitioning, expanding the patio of lights and turning the inside into a work of art.

The Mila’s, attracted by the fame of Passeig de Gràcia, bought a plot here and commissioned Gaudí to built their new property.
La Pedrera (stone quarry house)as Casa Milà it’s known by locals, was the subject of public mockery and ridicule, after many years of neglect, in 1984 was declared World Heritage Site by the Unesco.
Casa Milà is the most innovating building of Gaudí, magical spaces in which nature, his source of inspiration can be felt in every corner.
